About Reiki
How does Reiki work?
Basically Reiki works by unblocking channels of energy (or meridians) in the same way as acupressure. Meridians run through the body channelling energy, passing through our seven Chakras. If they are blocked this can have an effect on the whole body.
Reiki and the chakras
To understand Reiki and the hand positions used one will have to have some knowledge of the chakras.
The Reiki hand positions used here in the west cover and treat all the major chakras. The human body has several systems; sensory, breathing, circulatory, digestive, secretive and reproductive. There are six corresponding chakras for these bodily functions. The brain and the whole being also has one chakra, making a total of 7 major chakras. These chakras are situated at the top of the head, forehead, throat, heart, solar plexus, the navel and at the bottom of the pelvis.
The chakras and the body
Every chakra has a corresponding organ in our physical system as follows:
*The Root Chakra (red) - Situated at the base of the spine, it influences the large intestine,
the rectum, the kidneys and the Adrenal Gland
* The Navel Chakra (orange) - Situated, as luck would have it, at the navel, this chakra looks after
one's reproductive system, testes, ovaries, and the bladder and kidneys.
*The Solar Plexus Chakra (yellow) - Nestling at the bottom of the rib cage, this chakra governs
the liver, gall bladder stomach, spleen, pancreas and small intestine.
*The Heart Chakra (green) - Centred in the ribcage, this chakra controls the heart and arms,
and influences the Thymus
*The Throat Chakra (blue) - Aiding one's respiration, looking after the throat and lungs and the
Thyroid gland.
*The Forehead Chakra ( indigo) - sometimes also called the Third Eye Chakra and relates to
one's brain, face and pituitary gland.
*The Crown Chakra (violet) - is related to the whole being rather than to individual organs.
As such it is related to the Pineal gland (the body's timeclock)
The health of your organs and the health of your Chakras are directly related. If you keep your Chakras healthy your organs will be healthy too. One of the ways the Chakras hold influence over our body is through the distribution of Chi (energy). This relates directly to our Endocrine system - the system that regulates other systems in the body,it releases hormones directly into the blood stream and controls growth, development and daily activities. It is vital to
the body's health.
